Bobbysox Music Project

Not so much a band but a recording project bringing together some of Nashville's finest recording artists. Take the vision of one writer/producer & add these talents. The result is a journey of the heart, an eclectic mix of folk, rock & r&b in one album called "Written On The Hood Of An Old Car".

"The record has a smooth sound that alternates between smoky, Springsteen-inspired city rock & a more rootsy, heartland style." - Noel Murray, Nashville Scene.

"Stylistically, this album touches folk-rock in a deliberate way. I really like the flow from top to bottom of the song list. I will also say that this is a true all-American album." - Erik Beyer, Beyer Productions, Oregon.

"It's the breadth of instrumentation including horn sections & cellos that really make the songs. But even when they're barely present, as on Hoekstra's beautifully delicate recording of The Gown, the songs really do speak for themselves." - Mark Whitfield, Americana-UK.

How would you describe the band if you were a pressman or an editor?
Take the vision of one songwriter/producer & add the talents of some of the finest "alternative" artists in Nashville & you have the essence of the Bobbysox Music Project.

Why did you choose your name?
Because I wanted to make a reference to the roots & times of early rock n roll. Bobbysoxers represented that time in the late 40s to mid 50s from the swing era of Frank Sinatra to early Elvis & Sun Studios.

What type of music do you play?
I write, arrange & produce an eclectic mix of folk, rock & traditional r&b. What one radio DJ refered to as "A tribute to our great American "love in the backseat" music era, with an up-to-date imaginative style".

How long have you been together?
We began recording tracks for "Written On The Hood Of An Old Car" in early 2001 but it took over a year to get the whole project together. Since then we have kept a community together, supporting each others solo gigs.

What have you released to date?
Prior to "Written", I produced an album for British artist, Ian Coltaire, called "Ebony Nights, Ivory Towers" & one of my songs, "Always Be Saturday Night", is the (near) title track for his upcoming release, "Almost Saturday Night, But Still Only Tuesday".

When are you planning your next release?
I'm working on a new album concept at the moment. I've written about half the material for it. Whether it will include all the artists featured on "Written" or whether it will include some new faces has yet to be determined.

What is your favorite song to perform and Why?
My favorite cover song is Springsteen's "Dancing In The Dark". My favorite original is "Careless Years" simply because it has very personal meaning for me.

Who are the best bands you preformed with?
Once busked with the bass guitarist of Procol Harum on the steps of Eros in Picadilly Circus, London. Apart from that, all the musicians here are great so it's difficult to single any band out.

Where are you planning for your next shows?
Nothing is scheduled at the moment but, living in an impromptu world, who can say?

Any last words?
Yes, hope anyone reading this will intrigued enough to check out our album & website at:- http://onlinerock.com/musicians/bobbysox
