| Canadian songwriter Dave Soroka has been honing his craft since 1969. An outstanding wordsmith, his poetry and music are very personal and intimate but also touch on the bigger picture of the world we're living in, always through a lense of wry humour and unassuming honesty. His songs and delivery are reminiscent of the great troubadours of our time - Zevon, Young, Prine, Springsteen, Dylan - but his words are his own and genuine.
-James Moore, Radio Curlew. |

How would you describe the band if you were a pressman or an
editor? |
No idea. I would hope they would say something about what a good songwriter etc...
Why did you choose your name? |
Actually, if I was going to choose my own name, I'd have picked something almost too cool, like Django.
What type of music do you play? |
Pop-influenced acoustic/electric folk/rock/blues, with a touch of country. So, I'm not a jazz man.
How long have you been together? |
Actually, I'm 53 years old, and I'm still not really together.
What have you released to date? |
Well, I've recorded a lot of CDs, but I'd say there are only a few that I'd really want people to hear. The one that people seem to like the most so far is The Ladies Of Summer.
When are you planning your next release? |
I'm releasing CDs all the time. Sometimes it's just a live performance from somewhere, sometimes it's an old album I did on tape that I've finally mastered to CD, and every now and then I'll actually get together the resourses to go into the studio and do what I love, which is to produce something close to what I think of as art. The next one will be Hurricane Of Tenderness. It's in mastering and should be out this year.
What is your favorite song to perform and Why? |
That varies, usually the most recent I've written. When they're fresh I can still really get my heart into them.
Who are the best bands you preformed with? |
The best bands I've played with were just impromtu groups at parties or wakes or whatever, whenever there's a bunch of musicians who really know their stuff and I can get up and just rock, and not worry about whether they know what I'm trying to do. They just know, and they jump in and help me do it.
Where are you planning for your next shows? |
I'm planning a US tour of mostly house concerts for June of 2008.
Any last words? |
Yeah, of course, but I'm not ready to speak them yet.

| Cup Of Sand was the first recording project of mine that went to CD. 1997. It got sparkling reviews and almost zero airplay. A very dark album. |
