How would you describe the band if you were a pressman or an
editor? |
Doc "Mistabluesman" Quinn - A very interesting guitarist. Doc's electric blues guitar playing is "Electrifying" at minimum. It seems that when Doc is in the midst of putting his heart and soul into his guitar what is coming from the guitar sounds as if he has three guitars and several arms and hands all going on at the same time.
Why did you choose your name? |
Well, it was a long time ago, about (1973). A very dear friend of mine (Tom) used to call me Mista Doc and that just sort of hung with me and it wasn't too long after that other friends and fellow musicians started calling me "Mista Doc Bluesman". So over the years it has developed in to Doc "Mistabluesman" Quinn - Comin' Atcha!
What type of music do you play? |
The Blues! Over the years I have also played Country, Rockabilly, Rock & Roll, Gospel and older style R&B. The blues have been good to me. I love t he blues. I am the sort of man that can give my own self the blues at times and the genre just fits my disposition of life like a glove! Remember this, " This old world we live in at times hurts us and even makes us cry, but not to worry, we have the blues to get us thru it all"
How long have you been together? |
I have been playing the guitar since I was a six year old. I am now fifty four years young going on nineteen. Using my fingers and toes here to count I would say that it has been a "Wondrous 48 Years" and soon I will be able to say 49.
What have you released to date? |
In the sixties I played rhythm guitar for a studio recording in Fresno, California for the recording of "The Ghost Of Bardsly Road" ( 33 rpm vinyl). The album was called "Wild & Tender". My part was a simple little part. Back then to me though, I was in high cotton and diggin'it! Also back in the late sixties I played guitar for my sisters on the Four Star recording of "Dickey" and the flip side of the ( 45 rpm vinyl) " I Hurt So". The latest release I have had of my own is "Mistabluesman Comin' Atcha. I am on a new release with the Blues AllStars - The Nashville Sessions and that can be viewed and listened too at http://www.soundclick.com/bluesallstars
When are you planning your next release? |
Soon this year, 2004. I am doing a tribute song for our country music hero Johnny Cash. It will also include seven songs written by my Father Buddy Quinn and three really cool suprises. Can't wait to finish it.
What is your favorite song to perform and Why? |
This is an easy one! It's a loosely played unplugged acoustic guitar instrumental jam that I wrote in memory of my Father "Buddy Quinn". Not only was my Father a great musician he was my mentor and best friend in life. He would always tell me that no matter what my goals in life were always go hard and aim high in my efforts to achieve them. It thrilled him so to see me play fast jam's on the acoustical guitar, so like I said, my most favorite tune to play is for him and no doubt titled "Go Hard & Aim High"! He is deeply missed! I still today hear him at times telling me to "Go Hard & Aim - Do you want me to put it up here so you can listen to it?
Who are the best bands you preformed with? |
As a kid I have been on stage with Jim Reeves, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Buck Owens, Rose and The Madox Brothers and many more but, my last session attended was at the "Nashville Session" with the Blues AllStars and it was nothing less than kickass! Visit The Nashville Gang, Click Here
Where are you planning for your next shows? |
I just finished a live jam in Visalia, California and am going back to California (in fact leaving in two days from today) to do a live blues review for "Slicks". The owner of Slicks and I are currently working out the details of me being there one Saturday a month for the rest of this year! So cross your fingers for me, ok. I need the luck and the money to buy an airplane. It's 1550 miles one way!
Any last words? |
Yes, and no doubt the most important thing I have said during this entire interview, Thanks Django! Mistabluesman will always dig ya' man!All Song Notes: Doc's Old Stella! Doc's Bio! The Vagabond Mr. Cliff Houck
